Season 1, Episode 17: Solitudes

Aside of the obvious major storyline hint that the Stargate can break down, “Solitudes” is nothing more than a character development episode. There really isn’t much more to say about it beyond that, since you really need to watch it in order to decide whether you like the idea or not. Despite sounding cliché, the shows two potential lovers being stranded alone, it offers a much deeper twist and theme than expected. I recommend giving it a careful look and not discarding it right away.

Season 1, Episode 18: Tin Man

This episode is rather slow when compared to your typical “SG-1” show. Despite that I don’t consider this do be a flaw, since a plot like this does need to build up a little bit and it takes time. The road which takes the antagonists to the ending is quite interesting, but I just can’t shake of the feeling that this could have been a much better episode than it is. Needless to say, there are various elements in this episode which make it enjoyable, though it is a step beyond fascinating.

Season 1, Episode 19: There, but for the Grace of God

The theme of parallel dimensions has been around in science fiction shows forever, but this episode just took it a step further. “There, but for the Grace of God” is, simply put, a time bomb just waiting to explode. The writers managed to twist every bit of information we know thus far about the Stargate and just toss it into our lap in a whole new package. What really made this episode so epic is the ongoing invasion on Earth, which took the show into a completely new setting. For the duration of these forty minutes, you sense hopelessness and dread because of the Gou’ald onslaught, as if this very episode was a culmination of all the previous ones in this season.

Season 1, Episode 20: Politics

You can feel the tension and desperation of members of SGC as they try to shed a positive light on the program, while at the same time you see the Senator who from the very beginning seems to have made up his mind completely. Despite SG-1 and Hammond also sensing this, their willpower to convince him is unbreakable. The viewer as well, while seeing that this whole event will turn out bad, also clings to a straw of hope even as Jackson desperately tries to persuade the Senator.

Season 1, Episode 21: Within the Serpent’s Grasp

This was a complete blast to watch. Everything cooking up throughout the whole season has reached its climax in this episode. You get to see the global story being slowly revealed with a lot of twists and various elements. It is packed with action, investigation, strong emotional subjects and hard decisions, literally everything you need to make this finale a grand one. Aside of the realization that the invasion has begun, the most important part of the story is definitely the appearance of Klorel, a huge load of salt on already wounded antagonists.
