Season 2, Episode 1: The Serpent’s Lair

Season two kicks of with a blast, continuing right where the last episode stopped. SG-1 is still on Klorel’s ship, planting explosives throughout the vessel in order to cause a massive chain reaction and destroy it before it strikes Earth. The team has been captured and awaits execution. But luck seems to be on their side, because of Bra’tac who managed to win back Apophis’s favor and come back into service. Of course, he is still loyal to the plan of overthrowing the Goa’uld, so he rescues SG-1 from imprisonment. Bra’tac proposes a plan, but it seems to be a one way street, no turning back and suicidal. But it may be the only hope of stopping the invasion and bringing freedom to the Jaffa.

Season 2, Episode 2: In the Line of Duty

“In the Line of Duty” opens up quite just as the title suggests, during combat. The first scene is literally a war zone, Goa’uld Death Gliders attacking a village on Nasya while SG-1 tries to evacuate as much of the villagers as possible through the Stargate. A lot of people are wounded and need help to actually get to the gate, so the team is running around constantly aiding them. Carter is trying her best to reanimate one of the fallen natives, but while she is attempting CPR she becomes infected by a Goa’uld hiding inside the body of the Nasyan.

Season 2, Episode 3: Prisoners

SG-1 explores a planet with a lush rainforest, but there seems to be no civilization present and no elements that could be interesting for the SGC. O’Neil decides that they should not waste time and just head back to Earth, but soon he is interrupted by a man running from something. He is dressed in rags and completely frightened, being only able to mumble that he needs help and that they are surrounded by Taldor. The team takes him with them and head back to the Stargate, but on route strange sounds begin to be heard and a beam of light hits the group. Moments later, they are all teleported into a chamber of some sorts where two voices judge them for their crimes. Taldor means “justice” and it seems that SG-1 helped a man who committed murder, thus they share his crime and they are all sent to Hadante, a prison world.

O’Neil and the rest of the team journey to P7J-989 after a MALP was sent before them. The world they encounter on the other side of the Stargate appears like a vast, beautiful garden with several glass domes. Once they enter one of the peculiar structures they find metallic chambers which hold unconscious people within their grasp. On first sight they appear to be in a sort of hibernation, but when the team approaches closer to investigate they get caught by tentacles coming from the machines and are rendered unconscious as well.

Season 2, Episode 5: Need

Quite a long introduction for “Need”, but it all goes to waste since this episode is quite boring. Basically, what it comes down to is a romantic story between Shyla and Daniel. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind emotional and/or romantic subjects in my science fiction shows, it’s just that something is missing here that could make it good. The episode does have a good background for a romantic plot, but it sadly fails to meet the expectations somehow. The storytelling just doesn’t manage to grasp your attention and it leaves just a shallow, if any, impression on the watcher.

Season 2, Episode 6: Thor’s Chariot

Saying that this episode was highly interesting would be an understatement. “Thor’s Chariot” is completely packed with new revelations and elements of the global story. We are further introduced to the Asgards which more and more gain a title of importance in the “Stargate” universe. In addition, there is more information revealed concerning the Goa’uld, as we see the Horus, guardians of the family of Ra, as well as some things concerning Ra’s son and his desire for conquest. The very appearance of the Horus is simply amazing and I am really looking forward to more of their presence in the show.

Season 2, Episode 7: Message in a Bottle

“Message in a Bottle” is a very interesting episode from start to finish. What starts off as a slow and harmless investigation turns out to be a horrific nightmare. There is a strong feeling of dread, uncertainty and hopelessness once things go bad and they become omnipresent until the end. The very ambience has changed, almost all lights going down in the military base, so everything seems eerie. This episode definitely has the ability to invoke various feelings in the watcher.

It seems that Apophis has survived the crash of the Goa’uld spaceships and his desire for revenge is even stronger than before. The most shocking news came for Teal’c, since Bra’tac also says that Apophis kidnapped his son Rya’c. In the briefing room, Bra’tac further explains the situation. Apophis lost most of his forces during the failed invasion strike, so he returned to Chulak with shame and with his power crippled. It is suspected that another Goa’uld will be sent to take over his position, so Apophis is doing whatever is in his might to keep his spot of power.

Season 2, Episode 9: Secrets

“Secrets” starts with Daniel explaining to General Hammond in the briefing room that he must return to Abydos and respect the promise he made to Kasuf, Sha’re’s father. Hammond approves, so Daniel travels there with Teal’c by his side. Once they arrive, a rather big surprise awaits them. Sha’re is back on the planet, but is nine months pregnant with none other than Apophis’s child. To make matters worse, Apophis plans to claim the human child as his new host. Meanwhile back on Earth, Carter and O’Neil visit Washington for a prize ceremony. Jack runs into a journalist who somehow bares information about the Stargate program, while Samantha meets up with her father.

Season 2, Episode 10: Bane

O’Neil and SG-1 are exploring a world codenamed BP6-3Q1, a vast, technologically advanced sterile city. There seems to be no population whatsoever in the city, but soon a giant fly-like insect lands on Teal’c’s back. Before they manage to scare it away, the insect stings him, inflicting great pain. The team begins to run back to the gate, since a swarm of insects began flying toward them. Back on Earth, Teal’c’s condition is getting worse, since the Goa’uld larva inside him doesn’t seem to be recovering him. Doctor Fraiser took a blood sample and found out that there is DNA inside him that clearly doesn’t belong to Teal’c. She is in need of assistance, so Carter proposes to call in Doctor Richard Harlow, a top geneticist whom she met at the Pentagon.
